Haven Trio Performs Jon Magnussen's "TWINGE"

January 19, 2017 - January 19, 2016
West Oʻahu Campus, Library

Dallas-based Haven Trio (“…three of today’s most fabulously gifted interpreters of contemporary music…”– www.sequenza21.com) performs UH West O’ahu Humanities/Music faculty Dr. Jon Magnussen's 2016 composition, "TWINGE". The work, inspired by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Barry Bearak's New York Times Magazine article "The Day The Sea Came", recounts the stories of six survivors from the 2004 Indonesian tsunami and features 15 songs for soprano, clarinet and piano. The trio of musicians, the journalist, Barry Bearak, and Magnussen will host a Q&A with the audience following the hour-long musical presentation. The creation and this performance of "TWINGE" is made possible with generous support from the 2015 Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Grant, University of Hawaiʻi SEED IDEAS Fund, UH West Oʻahu Distinguished Visiting Scholar Fund, and the UH West Oʻahu Music Fund.

PLEASE NOTE: the multimedia performance includes tsunami-related imagery which may contain strong thematic elements. Audience discretion is advised, particularly for families with young children.
