King Hu's COME DRINK WITH ME + a conversation with CHENG PEI PEI

November 6, 3:00pm - 5:45pm
Dole Cannery

This year marks the 50th anniversary of COME DRINK WITH ME – One of the most seminal wuxia films. This Shaw Bros classic from legendary director KING HU features the breakout performance by Cheng Pei Pei, celebrated as “Queen of Martial Arts” for her iconic portrayal as 'Golden Swallow,' and her long string of memorable roles ('Madame Wah' in "Flirting Scholars" and 'Jade Fox' in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon").

Cheng Pei Pei, this year's HIFF Festival Honoree, will participate in an extended discussion after the screening, moderated by UHM Academy for Creative Media associate professor George Chun Han Wang, with live interpretation by Center for Chinese Studies associate director Cyndy Ning.

Screens with two short documentary films KING HU IN HIS OWN WORDS: REFLECTIONS ON AN EXTRAORDINARY CAREER (2013, USA, 5.5 min) and IN CONVERSATION WITH CHENG PEI PEI (2015, Hong Kong, 6.5 min) both directed by ACM associate professor George Chun Han Wang.

Join HIFF 2016 to celebrate the career of Cheng Pei Pei, as well as the work of master auteur KING HU. In partnership with the Doris Duke Theater at the Honolulu Museum of Art this program will also feature two other King Hu classics, DRAGON INN and A TOUCH OF ZEN.

This screening and masterclass are co-organized by the Asian Film Awards Academy and the University of Hawaii Confucius Institute, Center for Chinese Studies, Academy for Creative Media, and King Hu Foundation. Financially supported by Create Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Film Development fund of the Hong Kong SAR Government.
