April 17, 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Center for Korean Studies Auditorium

The Islamic Society at UHM, Hillel-HI, and the Center for Southeast Asian Studies will hold a screening of the film Arranged on:

Friday; April 17, 2015
6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
in the Auditorium, Center for Korean Studies

"The film follows the story of Rochel (an Orthodox Jew) and Nasira (a Muslim), two young women who have begun teaching at a grade school in Brooklyn, NY. Over the course of their first year of teaching, Rochel and Nasira discover they have far more in common than they imagined -- both sometimes find themselves culturally out of place in 21st century New York, and both are navigating their ways through the process of arranged marriage. Together, Nasira and Rochel publicly battle misconceptions and stereotypes about their respective religions, while privately confiding in each other about their individual struggles regarding religion and society."

A brief discussion will follow the film. This event is free and open to the public. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

We hope to see you there!
