A Life in Photography with Elaine Mayes

Elaine Mayes shows work from over fifty years, including images from twenty years of photographing in Hawai’i and images from her latest book “Recently.” Her focus and interest has been in poetic forms and extended documentary projects, many of which have been in progress for more than forty years.

Elaine Mayes is a fine arts and documentary photographer whose photographs have been exhibited at MOMA, The Met, SF MOMA, The Honolulu Contemporary Museum, and The Smithsonian. She was formerly Chair of the Photography Department, Tisch School of the Arts, New York University. On a Guggenheim Fellowship she photographed the islands of Hawai’i, resulting in a limited edition book, “Ki’i No Hawai’i”.

Elaine is the juror for this year's Contemporary Photography in Hawaii: 2015.
