Is Intimacy Impossible? Continental Perspectives

November 7, 2:30pm - 4:30pm
Mānoa Campus, Sakamaki C-308

Examining such activities as gift-giving, tickling, and mourning - and covering a large continentalist ground from Plato, Fichte, Beauvoir, Kierkegaard, to Merleau-Ponty, Bataille, and Derrida - this presentation will explore the hypothesis that we are never really intimate with anyone. Open engagement and gestures of friendship will be welcome and encouraged, but not guaranteed of success.
