Bollywood Mondays: 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' (1995)

October 27, 3:30pm - 6:45pm
Mānoa Campus, Watanabe Hall 112

This epic 1995 movie, lovingly referred to by its hundreds of millions of fans as DDLJ (‘The One with Heart Will Win the Bride’), is the longest-running film in Indian cinema history – still playing today in Bombay almost 20 years after its release.

Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) is a rich and carefree second-generation Indian living in London. Simran's (Kajol) father (Amrish Puri), despite emigrating to England, demands his family strictly adhere to Indian customs and values. The two youth meet on a month-long trip across Europe, and what begins as innocent flirtation slowly blooms into love. But by the time the young couple realizes this, it is already too late, as Simran has left for India to complete an arranged marriage with a family friend from childhood. Raj follows her with a mission on his hands, and thus launches a beloved Bollywood saga.

This is the eighth movie in the 13th UH Bollywood film series, running every Monday this fall. For a copy of the full film schedule, please see the contact information below.
