Inside the Ethnic Studies Studio...Featuring Seph One
October 23, 9:00am - 10:15amMānoa Campus, George Hall 301
As part of Filipino American History Month, this session will feature Seph One, a mainstay in the local Hip Hop and spoken word scene for the past two decades. Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in parts of the U.S. and Europe, he has been a resident of Hawai‘i for most of his life. He is the former emcee/host/radio DJ for HI-Level Funkshun on KTUH 90.3 FM. Seph One has been recording music since 2001 and has been featured in several albums with fellow emcees and artists, including Hunger Pains, Mo Illa Pillaz, the Mana Maoli Music Collective, and the recently formed Add+Plus (with PaizLee), which will soon release their first EP project. Utilizing his Ethnic Studies degree, his work in the local community has focused on engaging with men to end gender violence and using the arts for consciousness-raising and community-building efforts among youth.
