Ethnomathematics and STEM Institute Pre-Institute Workshop 1
October 22, 5:00pm - 6:00pmMānoa Campus, University High School 3, Rm 130
In an effort to address issues of equitable and quality education, culturally responsive STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) pedagogy will be explored across the State of Hawai‘i based on the Mathematics Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Now in its seventh year, the Ethnomathematics and STEM Institute supports K-12 public, public charter, and private school STEM educators and University of HawaiÊ»i STEM pre-service educators to design and implement lesson plans grounded in the ethnic, historical, and cultural diversities of our state. This will be accomplished through a year-long orientation, professional development workshops, and summer institute. Experiential and place-based learning may occur at locations such as Waikalua Loko Fishpond in KÄne‘ohe, Ka Papa Lo‘i o KÄnewai in WaikÄ«kÄ«, Waimea Valley, and Kalaupapa National Historical Park on the island of Moloka'i. Please see the flyer attached for additional details, including dates and the application process which will be discussed at the mandatory pre-institute workshop. Educators will receive 6 professional development PDE-3 HIDOE credits or a stipend upon successful completion.
