Waikiki Parc Features Emily Patacsil
September 4, 2014 - January 2, 2015Parc Promenade Gallery, Waikiki Parc Hotel, 2233 Helumoa Road, Waikiki
UPDATE: Extended through January 2, 2015
Emily Patacsil, recipient of a BFA degree in art from UH MÄnoa this past May, is the next up-and-coming young artist to be featured at the Promenade Gallery at the Waikiki Parc. Her recent glass and mixed media sculptures are highlighted in the new gallery as part of an expanded arts partnership of the University of Hawai‘i at MÄnoa, the Halekulani and its sister hotel, the Waikiki Parc.
“My work reflects my exploration of my identity as a Hawaiian who grew up in modern day Hawai‘i. I explore my own connections and interpretations to traditional Hawaiian concepts like 'kuleana' (responsibility) and ' ‘ohana' (family). By utilizing different mediums I express my frustration, realization, and continuous reaching for a sense of self—a sense of self that looks to the past to understand the present," states Patascil.
Reception: Thursday, September 4. 6:00-8:00 p.m.
