Book Launch: Value of Hawai'i 2: Ancestral Roots, Oceanic Visions
April 23, 5:30pm - 7:30pmMānoa Campus, HÄlau o Haumea, KamakakÅ«okalani Center for Hawaiian Studies
Grounded in community work and research happening in the present, the book offers wisdom, passion, and personal stories from both experienced and young leaders, all innovators in their fields, from O‘ahu, Hawai‘i Island, Maui, LÄna‘i, Moloka‘i, O‘ahu, Kaua‘i, and the Pacific. The Value of Hawai‘i 2: Ancestral Roots, Oceanic Visions proudly follows in the footsteps of the first book, The Value of Hawai‘i: Knowing the Past, Shaping the Future edited by Craig Howes and Jon Osorio. Featuring essays, poetry and artwork that chart out alternative futures for Hawai‘i, this book raises some of the following questions:
How can more of us protect and create waiwai, value, for coming generations? How will we feed ourselves? Take care of one another? Negotiate and celebrate differences? Share resources?
This FREE event will include pūpū, music, the sharing of our creative visions for a future Hawai‘i and a chance to visit with authors from the book. Groups and individuals working for education, community health, and social justice will be sought for collaboration. Books will be made available at a discounted price. All are welcome to attend!
