Peace Day Hawaii 2013 celebrates its 6th year with Aloha Peace lei! Peace Day Hawaii 2013, September 21st, 2-5 p.m., at the University of Hawai’i College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources Urban Garden Center, Pearl City.

Join us in creating the Aloha Peace lei connecting peacemakers from Hawai’i to China. Enjoy a free family day of exploring the many variety of plants and gardens, educational materials, lei-making and hand print pledges for peace activities.

Teacher and students are encouraged to attend and incorporate peace in their curriculum.

Continuing its theme of cultivating peace through gardening in the schools and community, on display are exhibits by the Mastergardener program, MA’O Organic Farms, Kokua Foundation, Hawaii Farm to School Network. Performances include: Sri Lankan Buddhist Monk Blessing, Korean Drummers Thunder Hawai’i, multicultural Lion Dancers, O’Infinity Chant & singing bowls, Mastergardener Hula & Band Hui, Nia Dancing. Special Awards to the Honolulu Rose Society addition to the Peace Garden Pathway and announcement of the 2013 Distinguished Peacemaker, Kumu Ramsay Taum. Free entry, entertainment, food and fun for all ages. Seating is limited, so we ask that you bring outdoor seating and sun protection as needed.

April 2007, Hawai’i became the first state in the nation to officially recognize the United Nation's International Day of Peace and Nonviolence now celebrated in more than 200 countries worldwide: “that September 21 of each year shall be known and recognized as “Peace Day” to promote peace programs, improve international relations, and increase educational awareness of peace…All citizens shall be encouraged to observe and celebrate the blessings of peace and endeavor to create peace on peace day.” (Act 23)
