Topic: "Rebalancing China's Political Economy and Implications for Global Business "

Speaker: Dr. Christopher A. McNally

Associate Professor, Chaminade University; Adjunct Senior Fellow, East-West Center

This lecture examines China's emergent political economy, especially with regard to recent policy efforts that seek to rebalance the country's dynamic of economic growth. China has relied over the past thirty years heavily on exports and investment to drive growth. Various initiatives now aim to create a more balanced model of growth that relies on domestic consumption, especially via urbanization. The lecture ends with several implications of these policy efforts for the global economic system and business prospects internationally.
