MD White Coat Ceremony
July 19, 6:00pm - 8:00pmKaimuki High School Auditorium
Our newest MD students and their families celebrate a great achievement: the student has won admission to the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM). More than 1,500 applicants compete every year for 66 entering MD slots, so there’s much to celebrate! Jubilant students will be “cloaked†(presented with the shorter white coats which identify them as MD students) by JABSOM MD alumni.
Reaching all the way back to the 5th century before Christ, medical students traditionally recite the Oath of Hippocrates at the beginning of their studies during the White Coat Ceremony, and again when they are awarded the time-honored title of Medical Doctor at Convocation.
The Incoming Class of 2017 at the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) will experience that tradition during their White Coat Ceremony on July 19, from 6:30 p.m. until about 8:30 p.m. The class is led in the oath by Dr. William Haning, President of the JABSOM Alumni Association.
