Out Loud in the Library presents WORDS+

Out Loud in the Library at Windward Community College celebrates the rich intersection of words and visual art—poetry, graphic novels, video and book arts.

Local and visiting writers and artists Lynn Young, Maiana Minahal, Tyler Chin-Tanner, and Wendy Chin-Tanner.

Gather for music, reading and presentations from 6:00-8:00 in the Library Learning Commons, Room 102. This event is free and open to the public.

BIO BRIEFS:

Lynn Young works as a teaching artist in the schools and is currently completing her master’s degree in creative writing at UH-Manoa. She also teaches Side by Side, an interdisciplinary workshop that combines visual art, creative writing and bookmaking.

Maiana Minahal is an educator, interdisciplinary artist, and the author of the poetry collection Legend Sondayo, published by Civil Defense Poetry. After earning her MFA from Antioch University, she taught at the University of California, Berkeley, at the University of Minnesota, at Laney College, and at San Francisco City College; she currently teaches at Kapi’olani Community College. She was born in Manila, and raised in Southern California.

Tyler Chin-Tanner is a graphic novelist and founder of the comic book and graphic novel publishing company A Wave Blue World. His graphic novel, American Terrorist, was featured in The New York Times Holiday Book Review. He lives in Portland, OR with his wife, poet Wendy Chin-Tanner, and daughter, Maddy.

Wendy Chin-Tanner’s first collection Turn is forthcoming from Sibling Rivalry Press in March, 2014. She is a founding editor at Kin Poetry Journal, poetry editor at Stealing Time Magazine and The Nervous Breakdown, staff interviewer at Lantern Review, and online sociology instructor at Cambridge University, UK. Wendy lives in Portland, OR.
