Bollywood Mondays: 'Delhi Belly' (2011)

November 26, 3:30pm - 5:15pm
Mānoa Campus, Hawai'i Institute of Geophysics Auditorium (HIG 110)

'Delhi Belly' heralds a new era in Indian popular cinema as a hilarious and occasionally (if endearingly) uncouth black comedy made primarily in 'Hinglish'. It is an immensely popular – and controversial – film which breaks many cinematic conventions that viewers might associate with 'Bollywood'.

The frenetic plot follows the adventures of three roommates who live in a decrepit Delhi apartment. Through a series of very funny and unlikely plot twists, the buddies somehow run afoul of ruthless diamond smugglers all the while trying to deal with romantic crises, rent payment shortages, and the titular stomach infection.

This is the twelfth (and second-to-last) movie in the 11th UHM Bollywood film series, running every Monday this fall. For a copy of the full semester film series schedule, please see the contact information below.
