Disability: A Kazakhstani Perspective

October 29, 3:00pm - 4:15pm
Mānoa Campus, 171 F Lower Campus Rd.

Please come meet and talk with visiting Fulbright Scholar Yevgeniy Tetyukhin. Yev is a linguistics professor, international wheelchair racer, and disability advocate from Kazakhstan. He has been to Hawai‘i and visited both the Pacific Rim International Conference on Disability and Diversity and the Center on Disability Studies multiple times. He will spend a few minutes sharing what he’s learned from his visits to Hawai‘i, focusing on disability as a part of diversity. What has North Kazakhstan State University done to include students with disabilities? What is it like living with a disability in Kazakhstan? What can we in the Western world learn from Yev’s experiences in Kazakhstan? Or as Yev likes to say, come hear about “Yev and the world around him.”
