Come Share the Magic of Polynesia
…hear the exhilarating array of drum beats…masterful, authentic and heart-pounding drum beat of Polynesia….a source of inspiration for Samoan, Hawaiian, Tahitian, Maori, Tokelauan, Cook Islands and Tongan dance and musical groups.
…Witness Polynesian dances like a breath of life that is exquisitely embodied and expressed in patterns of motion and sound…watch their hands tell a story…see their smiling faces…look at their foot movement…It’s appealing not only to the eye but all senses.
Featuring: Traditional and Contemporary dance and music of Samoa, Hawaii, Tonga, Tahiti, Rarotonga, Maori….Special performances by residents of Student Housing Service and Professional groups, Educational booths, Display and Exhibition Tables by various Department of UH Manoa, 101 ways to tie a Sarong, lavalava, pareu, pareo, sulu, malo by designer Shevon Matai, Residents of Student Housing Services Parading and Modeling island wear by Tiare Signature Island Creation, Demonstration of Poi Pounding, Kava tasting, Polynesian Food Tasting, Lei Making, Tapa, Kapa, Siapo, Elei rubbing and printing………….
The Program is divided into three parts:
5:30PM – 6:30PM Educational Exhibition and Display Booths
6:30PM – 7:30PM First Half of Performing Arts (Residents of Student Housing Services, UH Manoa)
7:30PM – 9:00PM Second Half of Performing Arts (Community Groups and Various Dept of UH Manoa)
