FACULTY SEARCH / ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN SCULPTURE

(position# 0084050) Tenure track, full time, 9 month position, to begin August 1st 2017, pending position clearance and availability of funds.

The department is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor with a specific interest in teaching and practicing sculpture relevant to the context of Hawai'i and the Asia Pacific. The ideal applicant has a fluid practice that incorporates both the material and conceptual languages of contemporary sculpture. The applicant also ideally has a vision for the future of sculpture and art in general.

Minimum Qualifications
MFA or equivalent academic degree with a concentration in sculpture or related area/s; college-level teaching experience; and a national exhibition record.

Desirable Qualifications
Evidence of research, teaching and/or practice relevant to the context of Hawaii and the Asia Pacific; engagement with the future of sculpture and art in general; knowledge of technical, historical and critical contemporary issues in sculpture; the ability to collaborate and think across media and disciplinary boundaries; an active international exhibition record; experience teaching introductory, advanced and graduate level college courses; and experience managing labs dedicated to mechanical and digital fabrication.

Duties and Responsibilities
Duties are in the areas of creative research, teaching, and service. Teach five courses a year - undergraduate courses in sculpture and cross-media undergraduate/graduate level seminars; conduct research; advise students and develop curriculum; help supervise 3D labs; oversee student assistants; participate in the governance of the department; and other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

Pay Range: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
