Graduate admissions

The UH System offers graduate studies at UH Manoa, UH Hilo and through our three University Centers.

Graduate program applications are handled separately from undergraduate applications. Contact the graduate admissions office at the campus or center you are interested in applying to for full details and requirements.

Undergraduate Admissions Overview

Please familiarize yourself with the admissions requirements of the campus to which you are applying by following the campus links to the left, and by visiting the campus home page.

All University of Hawai‘i campuses use the same System Application Form for undergraduate enrollment, however, applications are submitted to and processed by each individual campus.

The following are required for application to any University of Hawai‘i System campus, unless otherwise indicated. Applications will not be considered for admission if required documents are not submitted. All documentation is the property of the University of Hawai‘i and will not be released.

Undergraduate application checklist

1. Completed Application
The System Application form is available online in PDF format or directly from the admissions office of each campus. UH Manoa applications and UH Hilo applications are available online for both undergraduates and graduates.

2. Application Fee
This payment is non-refundable, nontransferable, is required by each campus to which you apply, each time you apply. For campus application fees, select your desired campus from the list to the left.

3. Official High School Transcript
For Community Colleges, a transcript is required by certain programs. The campus will inform you if it is required. UH Hilo requires a transcript if you have less than 24 baccalaureate credits from a regionally accredited college. UH Manoa requires a transcript if you have earned less than 24 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited U.S. college in courses equivalent to those offered by UH Manoa at the time you apply for admission. Your transcript must be sent directly from your high school to the Admissions Office to be considered official. UH West O‘ahu does not require a transcript.

If you did not graduate from high school, you may submit the General Education Development (GED) test results in addition to your high school transcript. Your GED should be sent directly from the testing center to the Admissions Office of the campus to which you are applying.

4. Other Official Transcripts
College, university, business, or post-secondary school transcripts are required by UH Hilo, UH Manoa, and UH West O‘ahu. The Community Colleges require transcripts only if you wish to transfer those credits.

You must have official transcripts from each school sent directly by each school to the Admissions Office of the campus to which you are applying. Transcripts sent via fax or personally delivered will not be considered official. If you are applying for the fall semester, the transcript should include all courses completed through the previous fall semester. If you are applying for the spring semester, the transcript should include all courses completed through the previous summer. See transferring to UH for more information.

5. Official Test Scores
Official SAT-1 or American College Test (ACT) score is required by UH Hilo and UH Manoa, if you have less than 24 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited U.S. college.

6. Degree Certification
Certification of degree is required if you are applying for post-baccalaureate unclassified graduate status at UH Hilo, UH Manoa, or UH West O‘ahu. Official transcripts indicating the degree conferred must be submitted. Certification of degree is not required by the community colleges.

7. Health Clearance
Both tuberculosis and measles (rubeola) clearance are required of all students and must be submitted prior to registration. You will receive a Health Information Form if you are accepted.
