Chancellor, University of Hawai‘i at Manoa

Tom Apple

Tom Apple became chancellor of the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa in June 2012.

Before assuming the chancellor’s post at UH Manoa, he served as provost of the University of Delaware and was also the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at that campus. Previously, Apple held key positions at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York, including vice provost and dean of graduate education.

Funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health and other private sources, Apple’s research focuses on magnetic resonance of zeolite and polymers. He authored numerous refereed articles and has served on review panels for the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Energy and various academic institutions.

Apple received his doctorate in physical chemistry from the University of Delaware and his bachelor of science in biology from Pennsylvania State University. His post-doctoral work was conducted at Iowa State University’s Ames Laboratory.
