Culinary Champions
Kapiolani Community College’s Junior American Culinary Federation Competition Team, also known as Team Hawaii, won the student team national championship at the ACF National Convention in Orlando, Fla.
Team Hawaii, comprised of student chefs Anna Hirano, Keaka Lee, Tate Nakano-Edwards, San Shoppell, Rena Suzuki and Ken Yi and advisors Frank Leake and Alan Tsuchiyama began their journey in October 2008. In April 2009, they captured the top prize at the ACF’s Student Team Western Regional Championship, and then went on to compete against teams from Michigan, North Carolina and Pennsylvania for the title.
