UH Manoa Distinguished Graduate Mentoring Award

Mentoring Award Winner

2011
Joanne Cooper

Joanne Cooper, a professor in the Manoa College of Education’s Department of Educational Administration, has mentored more than 70 graduate students to the successful completion of their advanced degrees. Her former graduate students include two high-level administrators at Manoa and faculty at all levels of education employed throughout Hawai’i and the mainland.

Her students describe her as an inspirational guiding light and a friend who rigorously maintains standards while providing encouragement and support.

Cooper is an excellent role model and demonstrates daily her dedication to research. She pushes her students to think critically, question their own worldviews and seek out new perspectives and understanding.

Established by the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa Graduate Division in 2005, the Distinguished Graduate Mentoring Award allows graduate students to nominate faculty for excellent mentoring, one of the foundations of outstanding graduate education.
