Patrick Patterson

Patrick Patterson is an assistant professor of Asian studies at Honolulu Community College.

He has shown a consistent commitment and dedication to students inside and outside the classroom. He shares with students a keen knowledge and fascination with the material, engaging them and inspiring them in their academic career pursuits. This includes service as a faculty advisor and noted efforts in mobilizing and directing community service initiatives that have involved the entire college community.

Patterson has used technology in his classroom, as he embraces continuous improvement in his teaching.

Nominators praise his patience, understanding and integrity as a teacher. He has shown leadership through campus service such as working on Excellence in Education Day and working as Honolulu CC’s history liaison. He has worked on accreditation and has recently taken the lead on reestablishing the assessment committee.

He is a committed and valuable member of Honolulu CC, who continues to be instrumental in the larger campus discussion on program reviews and program assessment.

The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching is awarded by the Board of Regents as tribute to faculty members who exhibit an extraordinary level of subject mastery and scholarship, teaching effectiveness and creativity and personal values that benefit students. The board also awards the Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Research.
