An assistant professor of English, Mark Panek is regarded by many as a great asset to the university.

In his teaching, Panek strives to have students take ownership of the learning process. He encourages his students to publish their writing so that they can achieve the satisfaction of seeing their work in print.

“Our students’ writing skills have been greatly enhanced by his efforts,” noted one colleague.

The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching is awarded by the Board of Regents as tribute to faculty members who exhibit an extraordinary level of subject mastery and scholarship, teaching effectiveness and creativity and personal values that benefit students. The board also awards the Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Research.
