An associate professor of linguistics, Kamil Ud Deen is a gifted classroom teacher who is at the cutting edge of research in first language acquisition. He is skilled at communicating effectively to both graduate and undergraduate students.

Deen tells students that nothing he says is beyond reproach, and that it is their right and duty to challenge him. The result is a substantial increase in the number of his graduate students presenting papers at prestigious national and international conferences.

A colleague observed, “He is, in short, the consummate ‘all-rounder.’”

The Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Teaching is awarded by the Board of Regents as tribute to faculty members who exhibit an extraordinary level of subject mastery and scholarship, teaching effectiveness and creativity and personal values that benefit students. The board also awards the Regents’ Medal for Excellence in Research.
