Phillipe Binder
Professor of Physics Phillipe Binder received the Award for Excellence in Scholarly/Creative Activities.
Described by his colleagues as “a teaching workhorse” and “the intellectual heart” of they physics and astronomy department, he has published more than 50 research papers and 15 educational notes and comments while teaching a combination of lower- and upper-division lectures and labs.
Binder’s work on chaos, a unique field in physics, produced two papers on the relevance of chaos in the field of astronomy during the past academic year.
He also authored three short papers while on sabbatical, Frustration in Complexity, Reflections on a Wall of Light and Philosophy on Science.
The Chancellor’s Awards honor outstanding service by UH Hilo employees.
