Community Colleges Award for Outstanding Service
Service Award Winner
Wendy Medeiros is a clerk-typist at the University Center at West Hawaii. She is essential to the center’s continued growth in the community. Her colleagues extol her "outstanding, demonstrated and sustained work performance, service and leadership."
Working at the center since 1995, Medeiros greets current and potential students and the public at the Kona facility. With the center’s limited staff, Medeiros must wear several hats. A key person in registration and recruitment efforts, she also directs the graduation ceremony rehearsal. She is a valuable team member and one of those responsible for the continued success of the center’s programs.
During the past two semesters, Medeiros has also become an adult learner and has registered for classes as her responsibilities allow. Her goal is to complete her associate of arts degree, then pursue a bachelor’s degree in social sciences and eventually a master’s degree. Medeiros has joined other staff members as both a provider and consumer of services with a "first-hand" perspective of the value of access to education.
The University of Hawaii Community Colleges Award for Outstanding Service acknowledges community college staff members for outstanding service to the university.
