Greg Barber
Greg Barber is a building maintenance worker at Hawaii Community College
Barber joined the planning, operations and maintenance department at Hawaii CC in 2009. Since then, his supervisor says Barber has saved the college more than $200,000.
Barber is described as a resourceful leader with a positive attitude. He has taken the initiative to learn about photovoltaics, electrical maintenance and carpentry. He even became a certified locksmith and uses his knowledge to increase the efficiency of his department.
Barber was raised in eastern Oregon and came to Hawaii because he married a local girl. Barber is the father of three girls and one boy. His youngest attends Hawaii CC. In his spare time, Barber enjoys paddling with the University Canoe Club.
The President’s Award for Excellence in Building and Grounds Maintenance honors UH employees who exhibit dedication and sustained superior performance in a maintenance, landscaping, custodial, shop or trucking position.
