President’s Award for Excellence in Building
and Grounds Maintenance
Maintenance Award Winner
Wayne Nakamura joined UH Manoa’s Campus Center as a utility worker in 2003. He consistently displays pride in getting repairs accomplished quickly and in improving the physical appearance of the facilities. Nakamura’s expertise in plumbing, masonry, carpentry and electrical and other areas of general construction has resulted in saving the Campus Center about $40,000 over the last year.
His colleagues say Nakamura is a stand out because of his attitude towards his profession; the enjoyment he gains from interacting with students, faculty, staff and vendors; and his willingness to go out of his way to complete a project.
"Wayne takes pleasure in his work and exemplifies the meaning of having a positive work ethic," notes a colleague.
The President’s Award for Excellence in Building and Grounds Maintenance honors UH employees who exhibit dedication and sustained superior performance in a maintenance, landscaping, custodial, shop or trucking position.
