Under the leadership of Prof. Denzaburo Miyadi and Kinji Imanishi, the Primate Research Group at Kyoto University has established a center for the study of the Japanese monkey (Macaca fuscata). The film to be shown is a teaching film made by this group to illustrate social behavioral studies. We have added English captions. Studies of hierarchy, parental, feeding, grooming, play and other behaviors (not all shown in the film) have been facilitated by training the free-ranging animals to come to an open area for feeding (provisioning). Particular interest attaches to the observations by the Japanese workers of cultural transmission.
