Linda K. Johnsrud
As the chief academic officer since March 1, 2005, Linda Johnsrud collaborates with lead campus academic officers to set forth the overall academic vision and goals for the University of Hawaii System. In a community-wide process, Johnsrud crafted a statewide agenda for public higher education in Hawaii that formed the basis for UH’s strategic direction and performance measures, 2008-2015. She also advises the president on matters relating to systemwide planning, policy development and analysis, and oversees institutional research, data governance, transfer and articulation, international engagement, human resources and employee relations and P–20 initiatives.
Author of more than 100 scholarly publications and refereed presentations, Johnsrud holds the rank of professor in the Department of Educational Administration in the College of Education at UH Manoa. She was the 2006–07 president of the Association for the Study of Higher Education, an international association of scholars in the field of higher education. In 2000 she was elected to lead the Postsecondary Division of the American Educational Research Association and served on the AERA executive council (2000–02). Selected as a 1998–99 fellow of the American Council on Education, she has also served as associate dean for academic affairs for the College of Education, past director of the University of Hawaii Professional Assembly and chair of the UH Manoa faculty senate. She has also served as interim chancellor for UH West Oahu and interim Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs for UH Manoa (both positions held concurrently with her system appointment). Johnsrud has more than 24 years of service to the University of Hawaii.
Johnsrud chaired the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities from 2010–2013 and served on the Commission from 2007–2010. She gave a keynote address, “US Accreditation and the Influence of European Quality Assurance,” at the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting on Quality in Higher Education in Honolulu, August, 2011.
In 2009 she received the Pacific Business News Businesswoman of the Year award as “a woman who means business.” She is currently a board member of Enterprise Honolulu and a former board member for Aloha United Way.
Johnsrud holds a BS in English education from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, MS in college student personnel administration from Western Illinois University and a PhD in higher education with cognate in sociology from The Ohio State University.
