Get a jump-start on a career in Education and become a part of the growing population of students enrolling in Leeward’s Associate in Arts in Teaching (AAT) degree program. Learn all the details at a free information session on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, in Room GT 105, on the Pearl City campus. The information session is open to the general public.
Leeward’s AAT faculty and staff will explain the degree program and answer questions. The session enables future students to:
- Meet the faculty, support staff and students
- Find out about degree and certificate requirements
- Receive information on support services and financial aid options.
New teacher education pathways such as the Alternative Certification for CTE Licensure and the Special Education certificate will also be discussed.
The AAT Alternative Certification for CTE Licensure program equips candidates who have content knowledge with the teaching skills necessary to become effective secondary teachers in CTE classrooms.
Special education Certificate of Competence that will prepare AAT students, paraeducators (educational assistants), behavioral aides, and teachers to work in inclusive classrooms. The 16 credit certificate that will allow these educators to enter a specific career ladder in Hawai‘i’s Department of Education at a higher wage step, earn professional development credits, or support transfer to the dual degree in teaching and special education at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
Leeward Community College’s Associate in Arts in Teaching degree offers a solid liberal arts core and specific education classes that prepare you as an entry-level educator or to transfer to a 4-year teacher education program. The program has articulations in place with UH Mānoa, UH West O`ahu, and Chaminade University.
