Coexist or Die* Panel Discussion

November 24, 3:00pm - 5:00pm
Manoa Campus, Hamilton Library Alcove

A panel discussion featuring young leaders from: Aikea Hawai’i, Defend Oahu Coalition, UH Student Leadership, & the Surfrider Foundation of Hawai’i. What does it mean to be young, free, and progressive in Hawai’i? In the words of Save Our Surf, how do young leaders EDUCATE, ORGANIZE, and CONFRONT?

The panel will be followed by a celebration in Hamilton Library’s Bridge Gallery in the Save Our Surf exhibit. SOS was a grassroots organization of friends that won major victories for the people and environment of Hawai’i over four decades.

3:00 p.m.: COEXIST OR DIE PANEL IN HAMILTON LIBRARY’S ALCOVE

4:00 p.m.: CELEBRATION IN THE BRIDGE GALLERY WITH FOOD AND MUSIC

*In 1959, prior to becoming the spokesman of Save Our Surf, John M. Kelly, Jr. attended the sixth annual world conference against atomic and hydrogen bombs in Hiroshima, Japan. Upon returning home, he was fired from his job as a teacher for posing for a picture with representatives from Japan and Russia under a banner that read: Coexist or Die.
